Curiosity

C U R I O S I T Y-  As a designer (and planner and stylist) I am constantly changing, constantly evolving, constantly dreaming and constantly curious. Curiosity is so important to me and vital for me to strive in the wedding industry. Curiosity evokes imagination and innovative work; two aspects that are important to me as a designer.

I am curious about my clients. I want to know their likes and dislikes, how they live, how they entertain, what they cook, what they love. My curiosity spans more than just weddings. My best work is inspired not by the wedding industry, but by art, fashion, architecture and culture. It is this curiosity that allows me to test my design skills and stretch my imagination in order to create an event that is uniquely personal to my clients as a couple.

I designed this mood board recently for a personal project.

Engagement Session at The White Sparrow Barn

I was over-the-moon when Amanda Watson asked me to design and style four photo shoots for her workshop last summer. Most people, outside the wedding industry do not realize what it means to "design" a shoot like this and that is totally okay! I want to explain what my process was for this shoot and how I could do it for a real couple

  • Inspiration- The White Sparrow Barn was our shoot location and  set the overall tone. The barn is so beautiful by itself. I wanted the shoot to reflect the engagement of two people. The pureness of love is what drove the inspiration.
  • Wardrobe- Carol Hannah generously loaned us her Ianessa gown in blue, which I had specifically requested. I knew the gown would have so much movement and I fell in love with that color, oh my gosh, that color! It would be oh-so-striking against the white barn! The Black Tux loaned all the menswear as well. I was able to hand pick everything from his jacket to his shoes!
  • Hair and Makeup- it was important for the shoot to remain relaxed in tone. I worked with Rayven of Beauty and the Blush Artistry. I chose to have her hair pulled back in a low, messy pony tail. I also requested that she have very natural looking makeup. My go to is always a "fresh, dewey look". I feel in love with his shoulder length hair, hello man bun! And I preferred his hair up, a bit less formal since his hair would be styled down for the "wedding" shoot the following day.
  •  Set Design- I chose to style the staircase with simple candlelight leading all the way up.
  • On- Set Styling- I was present during the photo shoot to physically style the couple and set. I am an extra set of eyes to watch for any wardrobe imperfections and tweak any necessary details.

Modern Rehearsal Dinner | Savor Gastropub

I had the pleasure of designing the rehearsal dinner for Amanda Watson Workshops this past August. I was so in love with the ultra modern feel of Savor Gastropub. There is something so exciting about being right in the middle of the city and overlooking Klyde Warren Park! I wanted to keep with the overall modern feel and chose clean and sleek plates and flatware from Posh Couture Rentals. Poppy Lane Design and I worked together to come up with floral arrangements composed of various shades of creme and varying textures of greenery to soften the overall feel. I was so pleased with how the dinner turned out and can not wait to work there again!
